The Integrative Healthcare Policy Consortium – and Me!

I want to let you know about a new project I’m involved in!

As you know, I’ve written extensively about insurance coverage, especially in light of the Affordable Care Act.

I had lamented for a while that it didn’t look like there was any organization that really cared about getting CAM included in the new healthcare laws. But then, through a series of chance occurrences (ok, maybe just one), I found the Integrative Healthcare Policy Consortium (IHPC), a nonprofit organization that is doing everything I had hoped for.

As it turns out, that the ACA does have a provision that would include CAM providers under insurance policies. Unfortunately, because the wording in this section isn’t very clear, this will only happen with concerted effort in a state-by-state approach. That’s what IHPC is poised to do.

I relayed my interest in the organization to Alyssa Wostrel, the executive director of IHPC. She asked if I wanted to head a task force to inform and educate the massage therapy community at large – LMTs and students – about the upcoming changes. Naturally, I accepted.

So now I’m writing for another blog – IHPC Massage. Please check it out! And while you’re at it, you can like the page on Facebook and follow it on Twitter. Tell your friends! Tell your colleagues!

I’ll still be posting on this blog, and occasionally cross-posting between the two. Don’t worry about not hearing from me; there will be plenty of topics to write about this year!
